One in eight women have experienced breast cancer, which means chances are that you know someone who has or is dealing with the disease. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – a chance for us to come together to help raise awareness and work towards cures together, while helping those in our community that are affected. There are several breast cancer awareness events in Skagit County to practice prevention, celebrate the survivors among us, and remember those we’ve lost.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation is a philanthropic organization that provides free mammograms to women across the nation in pursuit of their mission to give women the tools they need to prevent and detect breast cancer as soon as possible. As part of their virtual celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, they’re asking survivors and the people who love and care for breast cancer victims to share their story on the National Breast Cancer Foundation website.

PeaceHealth is hosting a two-day breast care event in their Diagnostic Imaging department. In addition to refreshments, giveaways, health tips and raffles, they’re offering same-day walk-in appointments for your annual mammogram on October 17 during their two-day Breast Care Event. No appointment necessary, just show up and get your annual exam taken care of.

DocTalk on 3D Mammography at Skagit Regional Health

Spend the evening with medical professionals from the Skagit Regional Health Women’s Imaging Center to learn about a compelling new technology that can help diagnose cancer earlier. The new tech is called Genius 3D Mammography. It takes several x-rays and combines them to create a 3D x-ray, thus saving patients the need for follow up imaging.
