Barron Home Services is already a well-known name for home repair and improvement in Skagit County, always adding new services to their menu. And in 2026, they’ve expanded their plumbing department to tackle sewer issues in a new way, with less stress and no mess in a homeowner’s front yard.
Plumbing Responsibilities Go Beyond the Drain
The team at Barron Plumbing begins by looking at the full range of a customer’s needs so that they can put together a plan that fixes the obvious problem, along with the underlying issue that caused it. “Some plumbing companies simply clear the immediate blockage, providing a temporary fix that may only last six months to a year,” says Nick Stoner, plumbing division manager. “At Barron, our goal is to identify the root cause and provide a long-term solution that gives our customers confidence and peace of mind. When they’re running something down their drains, they’re not going to have to worry about it backing up into their basement or shower.”
Property owners understand that they are on the hook for the appliances and hardware inside their homes, but many are unaware they own the infrastructure outside as well. “A lot of customers are surprised that they are responsible for the sewer from their house all the way up to the city main connection, including the connection to the city main,” Nick says.
Barron Plumbing Services From Start to Finish
Full service starts with an inspection, which can happen before purchasing a home or any time after. The first steps include running a camera down the line to visually inspect the condition of the pipe, and a locator that tells Barron Plumbing exactly where the pipe is underground, how deep it’s buried, and where it connects to the city’s pipe.
Some customers might ask a plumber to locate a pipe, or to inspect it, but Nick advises having all those services performed at once to avoid a potentially inaccurate quote or other unpleasant surprises. “I prefer that we do our own locating,” he says, “because if another company was off on those locates and depths and we dig a ten or twelve foot hole and don’t find the sewer…that could be a huge expense.”
Barron’s Plumbers Replace Sewers Without Tearing Up the Lawn
When Barron Plumbing decided to start replacing sewer lines, Nick traveled to Indianapolis for the annual WETT convention, a gathering focused on the Wastewater Equipment, Treatment, and Transportation industry. From million-dollar vacuum trucks and drain snakes to cameras and electronics, all of the latest technology was on display, and he had the chance to pin down exactly the equipment Barron needed. His team replaced their first sewer in June of 2026.
The old version of sewer repair was incredibly invasive. Crews would move onto a property with excavators, dig a trench from the customer’s house out to the city’s line, and work inside an open trench for as long as the job required. Today’s method, called “pipe bursting,” happens underground, and requires minimal digging.
“Pipe bursting technology allows us to dig one hole where the sewer exits the home, and one at the city connection. From there, we cut each end of the existing sewer line, and we send a steel cable from one end to the other,” Nick says. Then they prepare the new sewer line, made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene). “It comes in 20-foot lengths, and it’s got some bend to it. We weld them together so that tree roots can’t grow through the pipe.”
“Once we have our new pipe welded, we attach it to our cutter head, which is attached to that steel cable. The pipe bursting machine pulls that steel cable through the ground, where the cutter head breaks out the old sewer line, and pulls the new sewer pipe in, from one end to the other. Then we connect to the city main and the home, and install an outside cleanout as well.”
