There’s nothing fun about having issues with a household appliance. Whether your refrigerator stops running when you’re not home, or your washer or dryer malfunctions in the middle of doing laundry, it’s a time-consuming headache that can frustrate you and your family. Fortunately, the folks at Judd & Black Appliance can help, whether you bought your appliance from them or not.
The company’s service department has the only union factory-trained and certified appliance technicians in Washington State, conducting hundreds of service calls through Whatcom, Skagit, Island, San Juan and Snohomish counties.
While other businesses may have you deal with the manufacturer directly or have you jump through other hoops before servicing your appliances, a simple phone call or email is all you need to get a Judd & Black service call in motion. Jeff Shaw, service manager at Judd & Black’s Everett-based Service Center, says the company averages between 100 to 125 calls per day, dividing 15 technicians between its Mount Vernon and Everett hubs.
Their caring and communicative techs will always provide you the same quality service, whether you bought your appliance from Judd & Black or the guy down the street. As long as you have a brand they carry, you’re in business. Judd & Black Appliance commonly recommends extended warranties as the smartest way to protect your appliances.
Technicians can service a wide variety of brands, but the bulk of their work focuses on major brands like Samsung, Bosch, GE and Whirlpool, the latter of which includes appliances from the Maytag, Jenn-Air and KitchenAid product lines. The majority of service calls are in-home, though customers can also bring their appliances to the service center if they so choose.
Shaw has been with Judd & Black Appliance for six years, starting out as a delivery and warehouse manager before working as a service department dispatcher. Now, as service manager, he oversees a variety of service department operations. The experience levels of the company’s technicians allow them to diagnose and repair a wide variety of household appliances.
“We can touch appliances that are 20 years old, all the way to the new stuff,” he says. “There’s not a lot of things out there that we haven’t experienced, or don’t have experience in.”
Their service technicians receive updated training, directly from manufacturers, throughout the year. Service techs also range widely in age, from youthful guys to older veterans who’ve worked there for decades. The oldest technician they have has worked at Judd & Black Appliance for over 40 years, Shaw says. Each technician also has their own Ram ProMaster cargo van stocked with a solid inventory of tools, allowing them do basic one-time repairs without needing a second or third trip to get the job done right.
The hard, honest work Judd & Black Appliance technicians put in for their customers is something the whole company cherishes. “We’re proud of the expertise and longevity of our technicians,” Shaw says. “We pride ourselves on keeping these guys for a long period of time, and taking care of them. We really care about our customers. We care about getting their appliances fixed, knowing that it’s such an inconvenience and hardship to have an issue with your appliance. We strive and work very hard to get in and get people taken care of.”
