On March 24, 2021, The Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County hosted their Annual Breakfast — this being our second virtual Annual Breakfast event. With greater experience in the world of virtual events, the Clubs got creative in planning out a live streamed, 70s themed morning show: Rise ‘N Shine Skagit. The show premiered bright and early at 7 a.m., running for a full two hours where guests could tune in for their favorite segments, or stick around for the entire production. With Club member segments including cooking, art, and technology, Rise ‘N Shine Skagit also welcomed a very special guest. Our hosts Ron McHenry & Ian Faley were fortunate enough to be joined by Washington State hall of famer, and original Seattle Seahawks quarterback, Jim Zorn.
Jim Zorn joined us first thing in the morning for an interview detailing his career, as well as his role as a serving member of our community. Behind Jim was a beautiful display of several footballs he collected throughout his career, including the one which he played his very first Seahawks game with. Of course during the Seahawks’ early years of the NFL, a win was rarely guaranteed. This helped shape Jim’s idea of success and what it took to be a leader and push his teammates to improve. His attitude of “leadership equals serving” was a welcome message for our early morning event. Additionally during the interview, we learned that Jim believes that “we’re never in a position where we stop learning”. For him, the Clubs embody this by “giving the chance for these young people to learn and get themselves established”. His support of the Clubs shined through his interview as he expressed his passion for staying involved in his community. We want to take this opportunity to thank Jim for joining us during this event, and his part in helping us find fresh ways to make virtual events feel personal & fun. We want to thank everyone who tuned in and made this event possible. Of course, as always, we wish that we could host in-person events. However, this year has been full of pleasant surprises in the joining of community through a computer screen. With this event alone, we’ve raised over $80,000 for the Clubs, money which will be going towards the building of Great Futures.
