Summer is coming sooner than you realize and that means bored kids! No one wants their child sitting on the couch all summer. Thankfully, summer camps have reopened and are ready to give your kids some fun in the sun while they learn skills that can help them in school and in life. Definitely book your spots quickly, as COVID restrictions have limited capacity and spots are filling fast. Here are some of the 2021 summer camps in Skagit County.
Salish Sea School
The Salish Sea School has two summer programs for kids who want to learn more about our beautiful Puget Sound and marine life. For incoming 1st-5th graders, there is the Puffin Protectors camp. Puffin Protectors program curriculum includes learning about the Washington State endangered Tufted Puffin population, marine ecosystem connections, mindfulness in nature techniques, intertidal explorations, microscope observations, forest to shore hikes and much more. Puffin Protectors is held on beautiful Fidalgo Island. The specific location will vary based on age group and programming. Every program also includes a special boat ride and hiking adventure on James Island. James Island features emerald coves, forested trails, spectacular views and an isthmus with two white sand beaches.
Their other program is Guardians of the Sea for middle and high school students. This program is for passionate students who want to know more about local marine life and learn ways to help protect our marine ecosystems. 2021 Guardians of the Sea programming is full. Skagit YMCA Y Discover Camp
Has your child wanted to learn how to shoot a bow or row a canoe? How about have fun swimming, playing capture the flag and more? If so, the then the Skagit YMCA Y Discover Camp is the camp for them! Any child entering 1st-7th grade can attend the camp. Due to COVID, camps will be split into groups and rotated between the camp locations. The same counselor will stay with them to limit exposure. Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County Summer Clubs
For those looking for physical and mental exercise this summer, check out the Boys & Girls Clubs of Skagit County’s summer clubs. They will be covering different themes each week, including art, STEM, cooking, “summer brain gain,” and “tripleplay challenges.” Your child is sure to end summer happy, with new friends and new skills! Mt. Baker Gymnastics
Mt. Baker Gymnastics has several summer camps for kids that are looking to be more active this summer! This summer they have their popular Superhero camp. This fun camp blends gymnastics with obstacle course training. They also have their Gymnastics Camp, for kids wanting to learn everything from the fundamentals to more advanced skills. If you have a child living with a serious medical condition, they do not have to miss out on camp this summer! Camp Corey has a specialized camp just for kids and families to spend time together, having fun. This year, due to COVID, you can go to camp or you can join in on the fun from home! Those who attend camp will do so in their “family-centered model,” which means your entire household will come with you and enjoy all the fun camp has to offer. Riverstone Climbing Gym
The Riverstone Climbing Gym is offering a summer camp for both members and non-members to learn more about rock climbing! They have two outdoor camps, outdoor rock and outdoor canopy, as well as indoor camps. Camps are for ages 7 and up. They will learn about techniques, play games and even do crafts.
